When the school year ends and summer begins, many Gilbert residents leave Town and go on vacation. The Gilbert Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit offers a Vacation Watch for residents planning to be out of town; an extra patrol to your property can provide some peace of mind while you are away. A Vacation Watch Request form can be filled out online at www.ci.gilbert.az.us/police/prevention/vacation-watch.cfm or call the Crime Prevention Unit to complete one over the phone 480-503-6527.
The vacation watch program is not intended for homes for sale. Have a safe and great vacation!
Here are a few other safety tips to remember while preparing to leave town:
- Ask a friend, relative or trusted neighbor to keep an eye on the home during vacation. Leave contact numbers with them before leaving.
- Lock all doors, window and gates.
- Manually lock the garage door from the inside and disengage the electronic device. This prevents thieves from entering by using garage door decoders.
- Have a friend collect the mail or newspapers daily or stop delivery.
- Use a timer for indoor lights and radios, which gives the illusion that somebody is home.
